Mevagissey is an attractive picturesque village which was once the centre of Cornwall's pilchard fishery and which still boasts a working harbour, with a few dozen small fishing boats.  It has a tradition of boat building dating back to 1745. Many of the old bulidings, constructed of cob and slate, bear tesimony to a time when the large shoals of pilchards were the livelihood of the whole village.

The perfect Cornish fishing village, with cobbled streets and a picturesque harbour full of boats and fishermen bringing in the daily catch.  Stunning coastal walks, with sandy beaches, high cliffs and hidden coves to explore. The village has an excellent selection of pubs and restuarants, whilst just up the road are the Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project (11miles), Charlestown (7miles) with its shipwreck museum and is also a filming location.

Mevagissey Feast week celebrating since 1754, is not to be missed! it features exhibitions, demostrations, live music, childrens entertainment, boat and raft races, freshly cooked fish along the quay a fete and a huge firework display.
